Operations Manager

Our client, an exciting scale up organisation based in Galway are seeking an experienced individual with operations, engineering and lean manufacturing experience for a senior management role with as the company expand its manufacturing operations. As the Operations & Manufacturing Engineering Manager you will be a key member of the management team with responsibility for all aspects of growing their medical device manufacturing operations.

The role will involve leading the entire operations value stream and managing the production and manufacturing engineering team to ensure the continued quality and effective supply of medical devices to our customers.

Role and Responsibilities:

  • Operations Strategy: Develop and implement the operations strategy in line with the company’s overall objectives.

  • Value Stream Management: Lead and manage the end-to-end operations value stream. This consists of direct management of the manufacturing engineering team and production personnel and indirect leadership of quality and supply chain personnel within the operations value stream.

  • Manufacturing Engineering Management: Functional manager for the manufacturing engineering team within the operations value stream, with responsibility for all engineering and facilities activities at the manufacturing site.

  • Lean Manufacturing: Lead continuous improvement through a structured Lean manufacturing programme. Identify and execute on opportunities for processes, equipment, and workflow improvements to enhance efficiency, reduce waste and increase productivity and capacity.

  • Performance Management: Establish and maintain adherence to performance targets for operations.

  • Quality Assurance: Lead the value stream team to implement and manage quality assurance processes to meet company, regulatory and customer standards. Monitor production outputs for defects, yield and improvement opportunities and complete timely and effective root cause and corrective actions whenever complaints or non-conformances occur.

  • Sustaining Engineering: Provide technical support for daily production requirements and drive process improvements to existing products & processes.

  • Operational Management : Develop a budget and manage operations costs including human resources, material, operations overhead and capital expenditures.

  • Production Capacity Planning: Efficiently plan production capacity and workflows to achieve output targets and SIOP requirements.

  • New Product Introduction: Manage resources for new product introduction in collaboration with the R&D team ensuring successful validation and ramp up of new products to meet launch and customer requirements.

  • Facilities & Equipment Management: Ensure the equipment and facility is maintained to maximise performance. Manage the acquisition of new equipment, tooling, test and measurement equipment to meet capacity requirements. Develop a sustaining roadmap to introduce new technologies or automation.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Degree in Manufacturing, Production or Mechanical Engineering.

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in operations or production management within a team-based manufacturing environment. Medical device background preferred but not essential.

  • Minimum 3 years engineering management experience – may be as senior engineer when combined with required operations management experience.

  • Extensive experience in leading and applying Lean manufacturing methodologies.

  • Proven ability to develop and mentor a team.

  • Experience in preparing business strategies and implementing action plans.
