We have partnered with one of Ireland’s leading chemical manufacturers, Biocel, as they grow their team in Little Island, Cork. We are looking for Senior Formulation Chemist to conduct work in our development laboratory servicing the agri-food and I&I sectors. An understanding of inorganic and organic chemistries pertaining to cleaning, descaling and disinfection is required. Reporting to the Technical Director, experience in and being able to develop, devise and conduct experiments, managing a portfolio of projects, spanning R&D and QC departments is essential.
Overview of Responsibilities:
Prepare stable and efficient formulations to meet desired specifications and cost objectives and liaise with QC and production as necessary.
Perform quantitative qualitative analysis using laboratory analytical techniques.
Develop new product formulations to support customers, in line with Industry and ISO standards.
Establish formula specifications, conducting stability studies, investigating and implementing new testing methods.
Constantly strive to improve our existing formulations backed by research, testing, recording, and reporting, in an efficient and thorough manner.
Aim to develop the laboratory and its capabilities.
Involved in the full lifecycle from research and development through to Customer on site trials.
Work in accordance with the central Lab Quality Management system and ensure compliance with ISO quality standards.
Have a proactive approach to assisting in the development of the laboratory and SOPs in preparation for external third party and / or customer audits and play an active role in such audits.
Involvement in driving the initiative to develop a new R&D database.
Involvement at tender stage with new and existing customers, as and when required.
Conducts exploratory research to gain knowledge for potential new products.
Requirements
Relevant qualification such as BSc; masters or PhD in chemistry or related field.
Experience in R&D/ formulation science in chemicals, drinks or similar industry.
Competent in formulation development techniques and interpretation of results.
Hands on experience working in an ISO accredited Laboratory.
Ability to work onsite full time.
Excellent partnership and interpersonal skills are required to interact across teams on site and with all levels of organization and clients.
Experience in supporting production processes is helpful.
Excellent problem-solving skills and commitment to continuous improvement.
Experience in project management, troubleshooting and continuous process verification.
