Q.1 Tell us about your role at Collins McNicholas.
I’m a Principal Recruitment Consultant at Collins McNicholas, and my day-to-day is all about finding those “aha!” moments where candidates and roles align perfectly. I help people land jobs they’re genuinely excited about and support them in reaching their personal and professional goals. The real joy comes from working closely with both clients and candidates to ensure a great fit and tackle any challenges that arise. Doing all this with an amazing team makes my job even more enjoyable. It’s a rewarding role that makes every day a little brighter.
My favourite thing about working at Collins McNicholas has to be the fantastic camaraderie and sense of purpose we all share. It’s not just about the work—it’s about the people.
Q.2 Why did you get into this line of work, and what brought you to work for Collins McNicholas?
I got into recruitment because I genuinely love helping people and solving problems. It’s incredibly fulfilling to know that my work can change someone’s life by helping them land their dream job or giving them a stepping stone into the career they’ve always wanted. Collins McNicholas stood out to me with its impressive reputation and a dynamic, supportive environment where I can truly make a difference. It’s the perfect place where my passion for helping others aligns with a company that values the same.
Q.3 What is your favourite thing about working at Collins McNicholas?
My favourite thing about working at Collins McNicholas has to be the fantastic camaraderie and sense of purpose we all share. It’s not just about the work—it’s about the people. Every day is fulfilling because we get to collaborate with a bunch of talented, supportive colleagues who make work feel like a team effort. And let’s be honest, making a positive impact on people’s lives is incredibly rewarding.
What really makes Collins McNicholas stand out is how much management genuinely listens and values your input. You never feel like just another face in the crowd. The directors keep an open-door policy, making it feel less like navigating corporate red tape and more like being part of a big, supportive family where your voice really matters.
Q.4 What did you want to grow up to be as a kid?
Oh, I had big dreams! At first, I was convinced I’d be an astronaut—I mean, who wouldn’t want to float around in space? But then I watched Armageddon, and my dreams shifted to becoming an archaeologist. I was obsessed with Ancient Egypt and the idea of uncovering hidden treasures. It’s still a cool dream, but recruiting people for their dream jobs feels like discovering hidden gems too, don’t you think?
Q.5 What was your funniest or most unusual job?
Picture this: 16-year-old me, working as an assistant to the invigilator during the State Examinations at my school. My main tasks? Serving tea and biscuits and making sure students weren’t cheating during bathroom breaks. I got paid €150 for two weeks of this—at the time, I felt like I had hit the jackpot! It was definitely a crash course in responsibility... and tea-making skills.
Q.6 Tell us something we don't know about you.
Surprise! I’m a total rock and metalhead! I also have a bit of a quirky side with a love for horror movies and a fascination with stormy weather. There’s something magical about a thunderstorm that I just can’t resist. In my downtime, you’ll find me reading, dabbling in painting, or exploring the great outdoors. My tastes might be eclectic, but they make life all the more interesting!
Remember, it’s not just about the answers; it’s about the conversation and connection you build.
Q.7 What's your favourite holiday destination to date?
Honestly, I can’t pick just one favourite place—every destination I’ve visited has its own special charm and unforgettable memories. I’m known around the office as the one who’s always hopping on a plane whenever I get a free minute! Our 4-week remote working option has been a game-changer, giving me the flexibility to travel the world while staying on top of my work. I just can’t resist exploring new places, meeting new people, and immersing myself in different cultures. There’s so much of the world to see, and while time may be fleeting, I’m determined to make the most of it. Oh, and a storm-chasing holiday is definitely on my bucket list—I’d love to experience a tornado up close!
Q.8 What was the last film you watched and/or book you read?
The last movie I watched was The Lord of the Rings Trilogy. As for books, I’m a huge fan of fantasy and currently juggling three at once because, well, I’m a bit greedy when it comes to good reads. It’s a great way to unwind after a busy day.
Q.9 What is your number one tip for candidates going for an interview or clients conducting an interview?
For candidates, my top tip is to thoroughly research the company and practice your answers to common interview questions. Preparation and confidence are key, but remember—at the end of the day, we’re all human. Don’t overthink things too much. Everyone you’re interviewing with has been in your shoes before, so just be yourself and let your genuine personality shine through.
For clients, make sure to tailor your questions to the role and be flexible in your approach. This helps get the most out of the interview and ensures you find the right fit. Remember, it’s not just about the answers; it’s about the conversation and connection you build.
