Principal R&D Engineer (Clinical Engineering) – Medical Device Industry

Permanent | Galway, Ireland | Onsite Role with 25% Travel

We are partnering with a leading medical device company, seeking an experienced Principal R&D Engineer to join their Clinical Engineering Group. This is an exciting opportunity to work on cutting-edge valve replacement technologies, providing direct technical and strategic support to physicians and medical teams. If you're passionate about advancing clinical applications through R&D, this role offers the chance to collaborate closely with healthcare professionals in both Europe and the US, driving innovation in the medical device space.

Responsibilities

As a Principal R&D Engineer, you will:

  • Collaborate directly with physicians through face-to-face interactions, providing technical expertise and advisory support in clinical settings, including cath labs and hospitals.
  • Lead R&D projects related to the ACURATE Transcatheter Aortic Valve device, managing complex case reports and offering technical insights on clinical applications.
  • Provide hands-on support and technical demonstrations, including CT segmentation and 3D printing for intricate case analysis.
  • Guide and mentor junior engineers, enhancing their productivity and technical development.
  • Act as a subject matter expert, influencing the company's long-term technology strategy and driving innovation within the organisation.
  • Travel up to 25%, predominantly across Europe, to provide in-person technical consultations and support for healthcare teams.
  • Ensure compliance with all quality and safety standards, supporting the continuous improvement of the company's Quality Management System.

Requirements

  • Level 8 Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Science (Mechanical, Biomedical, or Materials Engineering preferred).
  • 5+ years of experience in a design, R&D, or manufacturing environment, preferably within the medical device industry.
  • Demonstrated experience in providing technical support to physicians, particularly in a clinical or healthcare setting.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with hands-on experience in complex medical procedure support.
